Each spring we not only work on our garden out back, we add flowers to the front of The Mill House using flower boxes. I love the look of overflowing flower boxes and each year I try to do something a little different, still keeping in mind colors and cascading plants to draw attention.
Every year I worry that my boxes won’t be as pretty as the year before. This year was no exception. They started out just great and kept growing through July, even with all the hot weather we have had. I water each day and use Miracle Grow one time a week.
With the hot summer and the afternoon sun, my poor flower boxes have struggled. I even had to remove some of the plants from the boxes. I love the colorful look of the flowers, they are a nice welcome as our guests arrive. But….
I am tired of watering them, tired of trying to keep them alive, and ready for some good ideas! I was thinking of purchasing some unique rod iron plant stands or holders, maybe moving the plants back closer to the front door so they are not always getting the hot afternoon sun. If anyone has any creative ideas for me, that would fit in with this old mill, let me know! I love reusing old things…giving something a new purpose all the while standing up to the outdoor weather!
Lets give The Mill House a unique look next summer!
