Recently we were blessed to host a special family. The son of the couple who restored our building in the late 1970’s.
Don, the son, and his daughter, son in law, and grandsons stayed the night. Don, a retired pastor, had told his mother not to sell this building but to keep it for pastors and spouses to get away for rest. It just confirmed the story we had heard about the history of The Mill House.
Don and Audrey Entenman bought and restored not only The Mill House, but restored much of the town and the sidecut canal that runs between The Mill House and the Maumee River. The Mill House started out as a flour mill, then became an apartment building before the Entenman’s restored it. They lived upstairs and a dentist office was on the first floor. Once the dentist office moved out, a lamp shade shop took it’s place.
The lamp shade shop moved to another location in Grand Rapids, and Don and Audrey decided to put 3 guest rooms and bath rooms down stairs for their family when they visited. It couldn’t have been more perfect to become a bed and breakfast. Three guest rooms all with private baths!
Long story short, it took 3 sets of innkeepers before God knew it was time to use this place for his glory. He brought us here to do exactly what their son wanted to do.
