As innkeepers, we never feel that our guests are just here by coincidence. This week proved that to be true. We were happy to host Tammy, a spur of the moment guest who called on Wednesday morning. She was working on an out of town job and was tired of staying at hotels. She found The Mill House on her GPS and gave us a call. From the moment I greeted her and showed her around, we had an instant connection. She even asked if I could make her a BLT for breakfast.
After she checked out and I was cleaning the room, I found this entry in the room journal:
I found myself working out of town,
Another hotel, Not liking the sound.
I looked up places, and then I found,
The best little place, in a small town.
Driving through Grand Rapids and the history,
Finding the inn wasn’t a mystery.
Placing my feet on the front porch,
Looking around had me loving it more.
Being greeted with a smiling face,
Let me know I was in the right place.
Having some dinner across the street,
Lots of food and pretty cheap.
Waking to fruit, juice, and BLT,
with a blueberry scone was beautifully sweet.
Off to work in the frigid cold
Can’t wait to get back to the warm cozy home.
The place where Kathy and Ron,
are keeping the history going strong.
They make you feel at home to the end,
But in your heart you feel them as friends.
So when you talk about where you’ve been,
Don’t forget to mention:
The Mill House Inn
Thanks Tammy for touching my life. I will never forget our “breakfast chat”.
