Grand Rapids is not only a great place to visit any day of the week or time of the year, it is also home to many events. The season is just starting and what better way to start is with a race! The Grand Rapids Arts Council sponsors “Run to the Rapids 5K Run and Walk” one Saturday each April. Runners and walkers gather in Grand Rapids to participate in a unique 5 K that takes them over multiple terrains, a bridge, and the tow path along the river. The run is done in memory of Julie Pontash, a past board member of the arts council who lost her journey of life to ALS. Proceeds are donated for ALS research. We had several guests run the 5K this year.
Our niece Pam brought her friend, Connie, from the Akron area to run the race. We also had another couple who ran as well. It was a very cold morning, but that didn’t stop the runners and walkers from enjoying our beautiful scenery along the running path.
The 5K is just the start of the many family events that take place in our little canal town. I’ll be highlighting and letting you know what events are coming up. Watch for details about “Rhythm on the River”, “Ladies Night Out’, “Spring Fling”, as well as lots of others. We are also located close to many other small town festivals.
Even if there isn’t a scheduled event, Grand Rapids always offers plenty for families and couples. Wineries, many restaurants, bike and hiking trails, museums, historical sites, shopping, music venues, zoos, and more! Check out our website for current events.
Come see us this year, reserve quickly so you get your favorite room and date!
Grace and Peace,
Kathy and Ron
